10th Annual Alliance Small Business Matchmaking Conference

Wednesday, March 10, 2010, 7:30AM - 4:00PM
Atlantic City Convention Center
Atlantic City, New Jersey

The 10th Annual Alliance Mid-Atlantic Small Business Procurement Fair continues in the Atlantic City Convention Center! The 2009 event brought nearly 800 people together. A primary challenge for business is to be aware of current regulations and guidelines. This conference provides opportunities to meet buyers and contracting officers from major military bases, the surrounding states and large companies to discuss business opportunities. Educational sessions will provide current information on emerging new standards and provide you with the tools to bid and contract successfully, gain valuable information, and share success stories. This is your opportunity as a supplier to identify potential new contracting sources and network with buyers and other attendees. Ask pertinent questions and find out what that agency or contractor is looking for and what you need to do to qualify. Keep in mind -- THIS IS A TOOL IN THE PROCUREMENT PROCESS. DO NOT EXPECT TO WIN A CONTRACT ON-SITE.

For more details about this event or to register, go to http://www.allianceforbiz.com/events/specific_event.php?id=125.

Government contracting can be a boon to your business - if you're ready and up to the challenge! But there are things to consider before making that step. Are you - and your business - ready? Are your products and services something the government buys? Do you have a good record of past performance? Do you meet the "3 Rs" test, that is, are you Responsible, Reliable, and Reasonable? What are the pros and cons of putting the government on your customer list?

Government Contracting 101: The 10-Step Approach will help you identify and answer these and other questions, and assist you with getting your business compass properly oriented to find your way through the maze of requirements and regulations unique to government contracting.

The 8(a) Business Development and HUBZone programs are designed to give small businesses a "leg up" in the Federal marketplace. But there are eligibility requirements to meet and regulations to follow. To participate in 8(a), a company must be at least 51% owned and operated by individuals who are "socially and economically disadvantaged." What does that mean, who qualifies, and are there exceptions? The HUBZone program assists small businesses in economically depressed geographic regions, which includes most of Alaska. Here, too, there are rules and regulations to follow, and program participation requirements to meet. However, the benefits of these programs to your business can be tremendous! Companies in both programs can receive sole-source awards or participate in limited competition set-asides. Learn what it takes to qualify and become a certified 8(a) or HUBZone business, and start reaping the rewards!
